Cellulloid at Five O’Clock

Classic British cinema is one of the Isle of Albion’s greatest legacies. From the early 1930s until the late 1960s, some of the best films of all time were made under Great Britain’s overcast skies, as well as many other little endearing films that, while not considered actual masterpieces by the critics, managed to cast a magic spell over both theatre screens and TV sets. The aim and desire of this cultural blog is to pay homage to those wonderful motion pictures produced by London Films, British-Lion, Ealing, Pinewood o Elstree, to name only a few of those fabled film studios, and thus relive the emotion and excitement brought to us by such magnificent players as Laurence Olivier, John Mills, Alec Guinness, Peter Sellers, Dirk Bogarde, Margaret Rutherford, Stanley Holloway, Kay Kendall or Kenneth More. All of these, and a lot more, will be making guest appearances on our blog to the musical accompaniment provided by the likes of Georges Auric, Richard Addinsell or William Walton. The kettle is boiling now. Lights are being dimmed just as the film projector takes a turn down memory lane. It’s time for a brief encounter with good old time British cinema.
